I recently picked up a JT-30 and when I opened it up to look inside the element was stamped with the number MC 101. What type of element is that? Is it a good element?
MC-151 -- crystal element with a midrange presence rise
MC-101 -- crystal element WITHOUT a midrange presence rise.
MC-127 -- ceramic element with a midrange presence rise
MC-126 -- ceramic element WITHOUT a midrange presence rise.
The MC-101's came in the earlier JT30's - later models usually had MC-151. They are GREAT elements... if they work. It is extremely rare to find an MC101 these days that is still strong. If yours works - treasure it and play it! No sense leaving it on the shelf - where it may die all by itself. Be sure not to leave it in a hot car or trunk. Heat is the primary enemy of these elements. The spec sheet says they must be stored below 120 degrees, which is easily reached in a car on a hot day. And don't drop it - the crystals are somewhat fragile.
Hi, Bluzmann
(I like the double N at the end of your name!)
The Astatic MC series was as follows:
MC-151 -- crystal element with a midrange presence rise
MC-101 -- crystal element WITHOUT a midrange presence rise.
MC-127 -- ceramic element with a midrange presence rise
MC-126 -- ceramic element WITHOUT a midrange presence rise.
