Keeping time

Hi David,
Having a tough time with keeping time on chorus 3 Gary's blues. I have set a loop on the slow downer and have spent a good couple of hours on it. My question is should I keep working on it till I have it licked or move on to something else but keep coming back to it?
I know it's subjective but would rather take the most productive approach.
Many thanks
Saul
Hello Saul.
The key is to count it...not going by feel (you will later, but not until you've found exactly where to hit that 4'). The 4 draw is held for 7 beats (4 + 3). It's hard to count the initiation of a note (you're busy starting to play it, and in this case with a dip), so "feel" beat 1 as you perform your dip on the 4 draw and then count in your mind 2 3 4 1 2 3 and then on the downbeat of 4, play your 4' and continue the lick.
Loop this lick and play it around 10 times and then move on. As the days and weeks go by, you'll become more accurate and you may even be able to stop counting it. Keep at it, you'll get it.
