kick the reed - bad habit?
Hi David,
I'm really sorry to bother you about the 2 hole draw, I've read and listened all your very usefull tips about it.
I'm working hard at it after you told to open it a bit regarding my song submission.
I found the only way to make it sound round and open so far (I dont know how to explain better) is to "kick" the reed starting vibrate attacking the note with the tounge in an almost bending position, to relax it soon after and make it sound open, the note do not sound bended but just closed in that attack, and is almost unnoticable before it start to sound correctly.
Will I devolp bad habit?
I found the difficoult part is to make to note start "vibrating", rather then breath throught it once it started to sound.
I'm also courios to know why it happen with the 2 draw, I mean if the trouble is the reed beeing "heavier" (becouse of is lenght) shouldnt it be more severe on the 1 draw? Maybe it happens on that hole for the combined trouble of the reed lenght and the larger interval with the corresponding blow note?
It has to do with the pitch of the reed and your mouth. If you pick up a much higher or lower harmonica you'll notice you'll have no problem playing the 2 draw. So, the goal, is to change the pitch of your mouth by experimenting with your tongue and jaw location (this changes the resonant pitch of the mouth), Your goal is to just breathe through the harmonica without needing to use any special articulation... so keep experimenting. It can be helpful open your mouth and look into a mirror... your goal is to get the back of your tongue down... you may thing it's down when you're playing that 2 draw, but most likely not. Keep experimenting... this take a lot of time and experimenting.
