Level 3 Test - Don't Understand
I'm sorry - I don't understand what I need to do for the test for "Accompaniment Playing Study 3" - where you write "Use a jam track of your choosing and play one chorus per hole of the harmonica, for the first six holes. Make sure that the note you play is a chord tone of the chord you’re playing over. Use Accompaniment Playing Study 3, Example 2.3, as reference. Present each note in whichever rhythm you feels matches the track you’re playing to best." What does it mean to play one chorus per hole?
Hi David,
I was also wondering about the correct approach to Accompaniment Study 3. Should we use "I Want You With Me" as the jam track and use the Rhumba rhythm as in your Hole #1 example (Ex. 2.2). Or is the idea to find a different jam track and use a different rhythm?
Cheers Glenn
Hello Glenn. If you're speaking of Ex. 2.3, then yes, use the "I Want You With Me" jam track, and yes, use the same rhythm I present in Ex. 2.2 (which is called the Charleston Rhythm).
Hello dmenken.
You will be using the Hole Changes concept taught in that accompaniment lesson.
For Chorus 1 (the first twelve bars), your goal is to stay on hole 1, playing a note that matches the chords you're playing over.
For the I Chord, which is G B D, the 1 draw D works, so you'll play the 1 draw for the first four bars.
For the IV Chord, which is C E G, the 1 blow C works, so you'll play the 1 blow for the next two bars.
When the I Chord returns, play that 1 draw again. Follow this process for the rest of that chorus.
For the next chorus, the goal is to stay on hole 2 the entire time. You'll find that a note does not exist for the V Chord in Bars 9 and 12, so moving to 1 Draw, D, is what you'll do.
Watch that accompaniment lesson again to review the Hole Changes concept and give it a try. Let me know if you have any further questions after reviewing the lesson.
