Level 4 Shake with 2 Bends
Wed, 12/13/2017 - 19:23
Hi David, in the Accompaniment study, 'I Want You With Me' (version 2), at the 2:07 verse (right after the guitar solo) there is a 3-4 hole shake for one measure that goes into a 3- 4 hole double bend with a shake for one measure and back to a regular 3 - 4 hole shake. I think this is the first time I've seen a 'double bend' shake. What's the best way to learn and practice this? I can get a bend on each hole, but am having trouble sustaining both bends while also shaking!
Hello teresa. Yes, this is a good challenge! Play 3 3" 3 as relaxed as possible. Warm up with that combination... doing it ten times while staying relaxed. Now shake, but focus on doing the same movement with your tongue for the bend... no change in how that's approached. Make sure to keep all of your auxiliary muscles (neck, shoulders, etc.) relaxed, otherwise you won't be able to shake smoothly with those tense muscles. If you need to play a little bit louder at first, that's fine, but over time the goal is to play at the same volume as your regular notes.
