Hi Mr. Barrett-
When it comes to lick harvesting, which method would you recommend? Listen and try to play, or listen, tab it out then try to play the song by using the transcription? Lately this has become a major road block for me. I spend hours trying to tab something out as perfect as it can be. It is so time consuming and I don't feel like the latter method is very effective.
Thanks!
How about instead of tabbing the entire song, you just tab out one lick, then apply the Chorus Form process you learned in the improvising lessons. Chew on that lick for two or three days and tab out another lick. This will grow your vocabulary well and take much less time.
Great. That's a KILLER song... one of my very favorites. I was just playing that for a student the other day.
I played the original recording for him... I wasn't about to top what Bill and Mitch did :-)
