When doing Ex. 2.3, Acc. Playing #5 for LOA5, are we limited to playing chord tones on the hole that we're on, or can we play any note on the current hole?  Can we play passing tones or use rhythmic effects available on the current hole?

Do you want us to try to make music, using Chord Forms if desired, or just clearly outline the chord changes?

Answer

Focus on the chord tones only right now... the focus is memorization of the chord tones for each hole. If you want to play 2 draw G for the first three measures (Root of the I7 Chord) and then play 2" F (flat-7th of the I7 Chord) for measure four to help lead into the IV Chord, that's fine.

Gotcha--nothing fancy.

Just pick a bass pattern and follow it through the 9 or 10 choruses.
