Lung Pain
David,
I'm curious If you or anyone else has ever experienced lung pain from playing tunes that require deep inhalation. I've spent the last week transcribing and learning Sad Hours by Little Walter. As you probably know this tune requires some serious deep inhales. I've been experiencing some lung pain from all the deep breathing. Is this something that you or a student has experienced? (I've visited the doctor and everything checks out normal) I'm Wondering if it's something like a sore muscle from deep exercise. I realize you're not a doctor, but I'm curious if you've ever experienced this.
Thanks! PAJ
Fantastic. Fixing subconscious actions from our body is unfortunately a normal part of the growing process.
Hello PAJ.
I have not, nor have my students ever mentioned it.
I don't think of that song as being particularly challenging when it comes to breathing (though the opening of Chorus 5 is), so there may be some leakage going on (you may be allowing air to leak into your nose while playing draws). Take a look at this lesson and work through it... you might have some lightbulb moments that will help out https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/breathing_harmonica
