Manji and crossover compared
Fri, 12/10/2010 - 11:01
today I had the chance to a-b the hohner marineband crossover and the suzuki manji.
They were both in the key of a.
What I found was that the crossover was much more lighter to bend then the suzuki manji.
I also found that the manji was a bit leaky when I bent it.
I gapped them both pretty much the same way.
Is there really a difference between them, or is it just me? (considering my technique)
Hey Stinkie,
My apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
Wow, you selected a couple of my favorite production harmonicas. Having worked on both models and doing the A/B thing, I found the gapping processes to be slightly different.
The Manji harmonica was built with Phosphor Bronze reeds and super close reed slot tolerances. It behaves differently than the Crossover, with it's brass/zinc reeds and wider tolerances.
Can you discribe for me your gapping processes. If you have feeler guages, what are your measurements? Does the reed enter the slot at the same time (i.e. like a door)?
How would you describe your playing style? Rock? Blues? Acoustic? Electric? Tongue Block or Lip Block or Hybrid?
