Matte finish issues
Hello Kinya,
Here's a tough one. I just discovered an issue with my Seydel and wonder if you could help.
My G harmonica has a matte finish on the top and bottom cover plates, which is more resistant to my sliding up and down the harp than the shiny finish is.
Any workarounds? Should I replace the plates, or is there another solution you'd recommend (aside from buying a new harp)? Thank you! Dr. Spoons
Ah yes. Simichrome. (Available wherever auto parts are sold.) Back in the day (i.e., 35-40 years ago), my bicycle racing team went through a lot of it. The night before a race we'd all polish rims, chainrings, handlebars and stems until they gleamed. It didn't make any of us any faster, but there was always hope that the sun would catch it and temporarily blind an opponent during the finish sprint! Gotta' go get some and rejuvenate some covers. Thanks Kinya!
Thanx Evets and Ukulele Rob. Simichrome is the best metal polish for removing tarnish from metal. However, I believe Dr. Spoons is referring to Seydel's unique matt finish that can NOT be glossed away. My recommendation is to swap out the cover plates with the non-matt finish cover plates that will fit your Seydel harmonica model.
