some of you may have a lot of experience with many of the megatone amps over the years

is there any agreement on which year or version may be the best for a harp amp?

i imagine someone may say the most recent version is the best, or a earlier version

i plan to buy a megatone, and i do not know enough to buy a new one or an older model

i would appreciate your help

thanks

tommy

Better late than never?

Hi Tommy,

I see you didn't get any responses when you first posted. I'm guessing you probably purchased an amp but now, but if not, shout  back and I'll try to help answer your questions as I have both a Wezo-45 and an ME-18 from Megatone.

loren

thanks for the reply

i stopped looking for a response after awhile

so it is just today i see your post

thank you

so my question is and was...

is there a me 18 wezo that was the best,

some had one 10", some had two, some a 12 and a 10 speaker

as well the inner differences as the amp evolved

i had been looking for a used one, and never was anyone selling one in the usual places, reverb, ebay, musicgoround, guitar center

today, by chance i saw a 2017 model for sale by dale on his own site , i sent him a request to let me put a smaller down payment on it

                                                                                                            smaller than he would prefer

                                                                                                           we will see what happens

i didnt even check what the speaker configuration was

i would like to hear your opinion of what you like or think best

thanks again

how fortunate i am to get an answer to my november 2020 question, a real answer

i wanted a wezo amp and wasnt sure which model of the combos were most appreciated

for some reason, i had dismissed the wezo 45 (because it was older than the me-18)

i had actually given up because no one was selling thei rused wezo amps online

the question of which me 18 was best became hypothethical since none seemed available

also since dale laslie has stopped making combos in 2017

eventually i spoke to dale and was resigned to get a new me-18 head and cabinet instead

last friday, a great harmonica player pointed out that a 2010 wezo 45 combo was available and said he preferred the harp tone of a 45 to the me18

guidance is a great thing, especially when it takes a long time to become the right time

by chance, a 1960 gibson ga 100 bass amp was sitting on the counter when i got there, and i put a down payment on it

and paid for the wezo 45 !!

i never intended to have a harmonica amp collection, and thirty years later i have one

since i have watched the equipment videos section of the web site, some great additions have come, and will come

since i have some great amps, it seems that there is some resposibilty to have them used in recording

and using as many at the same time, so that a blend could be mixed

of course that means a lot of things in the future would have to come together....

i am a pleased and thankful member of the bluesharmonica site

i now understand this site requires a lifetime to absorb at my own pace

MegaTone Amps ME18 Combo

We are working with a new cabinet vendor, to produce a version of the Fender tweed deluxe sized cabinet that will have two ten inch speaker holes in the baffle but will offer it loaded with two or just one ten inch speaker (the other hole will be closed off with a cover so that later on you could add a second speaker if needed).  The cabinet will be covered in a unique charcoal tweed, and I will post pictures next month when its ready.  The variety of different head versions will be phased out this year, to simplify production.  The concept of "separates" to cut down on weight and expand options, just never caught on so because of market demand I am bringing back the ME18 combo.

megatone me18 combo will be re-issued in the future

thank heaven the combo is being again produced

the head, both the small and larger are great, and sometimes the only thing that will work in some events or situations

and having a combo in other times is the simpliest solution

so good for dale in adding another choice

would i like a megatone me 18, a large head and a small head, of course

at the moment i have put a small down payment on a head, and i have recently obtained the wezo 45

i plan to ask dale to redo my 59 reissue since mark overman declined saying he no longer does other people's re-issue's

in response to the mentioned megatone cabinet

can the two ten cabinet be made for a 12"and 10" and the 12" hole have a type of baffle so that  a two 2x10" is an option

so that i can either have a 12"x10" or a 10"x10" cabinet choice?

thanks

i plugged in the wezo only once because i live in an apartment complex

it was louder than my smaller amps

i wasnt able to get past five on the volume control, even with the pad turned almost to zero

and i probably would prefer to have the tab closer to ten, and have natural breakup

i hope someday to be in a larger place so that i can get a better sense of volume and natural distortion

the tone is good

becasue i have a 1/4 out in the back, then if the volume issue comes up, i can connect it to the pa and have another source of volume

i presume in that instance, the amp will be a monitor and the pa will be a greater source of volume

the amp was seldom used by the second owner,

the first owner was david barret

i feel glad to know the amp could not be a better choice, so i am releaved of any second doubts

because of your post, i realize i could and should set up a pa and my amp in my apartment and make sure the amp will work as a monitor

when hooked up to a pa

thanks

10/12 speaker option

The cabinet I use has just enough room for two ten inch speakers, and will not accomodate a larger speaker.  A twelve inch speaker is heavier and not really justified for the extra cabinet size required.  Most people want the lightest, smallest footprint possible!
