mic wires
Greg, what size / gauge wires do you use for mic connections, and where do you get them? I'm talking about the wires that go from the shell to the element. I got some wires from Radio Shack but they're too thick to work with and solder easily. (They sound fine though.)
Thanks,
Steve
Hi, Walter
A true independent electronics shop carries wire like this. The one I go to is called San Rafael Electronics - and they sell online Check out http://www.electronicplus.com/content/ProductPage.asp?maincat=WR&subcat=Wir
Hi, Steve
There is so little current involved in a mic's signal that wire size is not critical. I use 22-26 ga wire. You're right - heavier wire can cause other problems. It requires more heat for longer in order to solder it, which can expose the element to risk - and because it resists bending more than thinner wire it can stress and ultimately break an elements terminals.
Cheers!
