Mini Harps ( The Little Lady )
I have always wounder .How do you play the tiny mini harp ( The Little Lady ) I don't think they have that here. That woud be great to know. Most Fascinationg : )
hi, sorry to hijack the thread but what are your thoughts on the hohner puck? I can get it real cheap here at my location and I was wondering if it's worthit...
and if you ever heard Joe Filisko play a Little Lady,it would blow you away (no pun intended). It really is something to see/hear!! I'm sure there are others but he was the first one I ever saw play one of those and the memory stays with me.
The Hohner Mini harp and Little Lady models are tuned like the middle "melody" octave of the standard diatonic, but pitched an octave higher so all those reeds can fit in such a tiny space. It's meant to play first-position melodies, though with a little cleverness you could also find ways to play it in second, third or even fourth or fifth if you can deal with the limited one-octave range.
Hohner used to make a five-hole version that adds a hole on top so you have the equivalent of Holes 4 through 8, which helps with some melodies - and for improvising.
Suzuki currently makes two five-hole models, one tuned to C major and the other to A minor (the Metal Major and Metal Minor respectively).
Hello,
Here is a short footage where you can see Joe playing The Little Lady.
Too much!

Who's that goofy looking dude standing behind him???
Just some stupid trivia, but Paul McCartney appeared in a taped skit on Saturday Night Live two weeks ago "playing" one of these. You can still find the skit on the SNL website:

You have to sit through some inane silliness for a few minutes to get to it, though.
I purchased one about a year ago "just because it was there". It is almost just as easy to play as a regular harmonica either tongue block or pucker. The small size of the holes did not really make it any harder to play. I played "Oh Susanna" the moment I took it out of the package and it came out just fine and I thought for sure I would have a hard time with the small holes.
With only one octave (4 holes) its actually hard to play something that sounds bad. Not a bad deal for about $12-$16 retail brick and mortar store purchase.
Hope this response satisfies your curiosity.
