Moisture and Tongue Blocking
Hi David,
I know I've asked this before but I still have huge issues with the build up of saliva, particularly when I play something like the final piece in the Solo Harmonica section, so no gaps.
I was hoping that with time my mouth would get used to the harp being there but after a year its still an issue, feels like I'm getting desperate here.
I feel like I've tried everyting, obviously tipping the harp up and my head back, as little breath as possible. With tipping the head back I just end up choking on saliva.
Any tips, please?
Thanks,
Graham
My pleasure. If it does persist, you may want to look into private lessons with someone so they can see if there's something in the way that you're playing that may cause it to be more of an issue. I don't hear it in your playing, so I don't know if anything will be found, but it's still an option.
Brings to mind interviews with Rick Estrin and Mark Ford. Rick has said that it took years for his mouth to learn that "the harmonica is not food." And Mark talks about always playing with a hand towel handy, to tap his harps.
Hello Graham. You've checked off all of the boxes... short of spending time together in private lessons, I don't know what to tell you at this point. Have you done any research on excess saliva production in general?
