Muddied 2nd Hole
Tue, 10/16/2012 - 11:10
I should have asked this on the previous question, sorry. I have a new Hohner 20 Harmonica and I tap out my saliva and let it air out etc. I believe I am doing good breathing technique etc., but the beginning Solo drills I am making a muddied sound on hole 2 mostly draw, but the blow could be sharpened up.
I reviewed again your first lesson on holding the harmonica and where the tongue should be etc. but It still sounds forced.
Thank you David!
This is VERY common... your tongue is humped up in back, causing grief to the reed's pitch. Aim your tongue a little bit further left, focusing it on the wood to the left of hole 1... use a light touch... drop the back of the tongue down (make sure to reference this in the mirror... with your harmonica out of your mouth of course... too see that your tongue is actually lowering... this can take some practice). Reference the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) part of the site as well... I discuss this issue there. Keep it up, you'll get there!
