Hi David,

In music theory 6 Ex 5.12, I understand that G9 is represented as an I9, please can you explain how Ab9 is represented as bII9. Hope i've not confused you.

Regards

Paul

Hello Paul. The second note

Hello Paul. The second note in the key of G is A. The ii chord is built from this A note, the second scale degree. Ab is the second scale degree lowered by half step... so Ab = bii.

Hi David, could you recommend any further reading for music theory. I thought Music theory 6 was very interesting, well thought out and communicated very well.

Regards,

Paul

Glad you liked it Paul. I am

Glad you liked it Paul. I am not aware of any theory material for the harmonica, but there is general music theory for all instruments. "Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory, Complete" is good.

Morning David,

I'm going through the chord changes in the study song Walk with me as per section 5 of music theory study 6. As there is no flat 7th or or major 6th noted in the chord changes of that study song, would I still check that the flat 7th and the major 6th notes still matche the chord of the guitar as you do in your example of key to the highway.

Thankyou for your help

Paul

Yes, that's a great idea.

Yes, that's a great idea. 6ths and 7ths can be challenging to hear, don't be surprised if you get neither to match. If this is the case, focus on the basic triad (Roots and 5th's tend to be the chord tones you can really count on to match).
