Music Theory - crossharp
Hi,
I've loving the music theory lessons because my husband was a music minor in college and I played music in high school but never understood how to create chords naturally using the whole-whole-half method. I've been filling out harp charts in my free time and hope to have each note on each harp memorized eventually, but sometimes I do just enjoy playing free-form.
Last night I played with a friend's band and he called a "C Jam Blues" type of song in the key of G so I got my C harp to play 2nd position like I've done many times in the past. The one really good positive is I found myself tongue blocking for the first time during a performance as I've normally done pucker and it was almost subconscious to do the tongue blocking because I've been practicing it more and more on your site.
The one thing that I didn't quite get is that my solos didn't sound awful, but there was definitely something wrong about it. I believe I tried to do 3 draw as the "resolve" note but maybe it should have been 3 blow since that's G. Or maybe C Jam Blues isn't in a blues style and should have been played in 1st position?
Any suggestions would be helpful as I'm worried I might be getting music theory in my head too much and others are just coming naturally like the tongue blocking.
Thanks for the lessons and hope to extend my 30 day trial soon.

Hello Lauren, I'm glad you're enjoying the theory lessons. You were correct to grab your C Harp to play in 2nd Position Key of G. Yes, you'll want to use your 3+ or 2 draw as your home base.
