Music Theory Pocket Book
Hello,
I´m looking for a music theory book that I could bring everywhere in my backpack and that would summaries all the music theory usefull for harmonica players, would you have any idea ?
Thank you
JJerome:
David & Fritz's book looks like a keeper! (Looked at some sample pages on line.)
If you've watched any of David's interview stuff with Fritz, or read his entries on this site about mics, etc., you know what a loss it was to this site (and the entire harmonica community) when he passed away.
Let us know what you think of the book after you've had it a bit.
JJerome:
You might ask David in his "Ask Instructor David Barrett" thread here in the Forum. Can't recommend anything offhand, but for a small-format portable book you might checck out https://www.melbay.com/Products/99393/music-theory-101.aspx from David's longtime publisher Mel Bay, or https://www.musicarts.com/hal-leonard-pocket-music-theory-book-main00640... from respected publisher Hal Leonard.
As for portability in your brain, if you study David's music theory lessons here and get so you can mentally picture what key harps play in what positions in what band keys (all a matter of counting on your fingers); the circle of fifths; how chords are created; and major, minor and pentatonic scales, you'll be equipped for anything that might happen on the bandstand.
And let us all know if you find a good, portable book!
