The new lesson on minor!
Hi1 I can not find the new lesson on minor songs ! Thanks/Micha.
Hello gentlemen. There is usually a link at the top left of the site for new lessons, but this being an addition to an already-existing lesson it doesn't show up. Yes, good idea, I'll simply put the link in the announcement! duh :-) The lesson is found in Lessons > Minor Playing http://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/minor_playing
I am new to harmonica. I am curious why, if you are going to play in a minor key, you don't just go to aeolian mode. If you are playing in 'Am', a 'C' harp as all of the minor notes - the b3, b6, and b7. The 3 whole step draw bend gives you a lower octave 'A'. Just playing from 'A' to 'A' on the 'C' harp gives you a complete 'Am' scale.
Thanks,
Bill
Hello Bill. That is an option. The main reason is that most playing on the diatonic harmonica is in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Positions. Minor songs on the harmonica are generally rare. It's easier for players to adapt a comfortable position to playing in minor than it is to learn an entirely new position. Blues players also primarily learn from listening and copying by ear other harp players, and since 4th Position recordings are extremely rare, this gives them no reference point. For a musician like yourself, with music theory knowledge, applying your knowledge of modes will help you a lot, so it makes sense for you to explore 4th. 3rd Position tends to be the winner though... even after exploration... you can still use your chordal techniques... slaps, pulls, octaves, flutters, etc.,... they all lay out very well in minor. Explore them both and pick a favorite.
Yes, hard to find. It would be nice if the announcements of new lessons, etc. had a link with them.
