Newbie Help
Hi David. I'm brand new to the harmonica (3 weeks in) and have really enjoyed the direction that this site has given. There's a ton of information and it would probably be an overload without the systematic approach of LOA. I'm sure you have this info somewhere but I couldn't find it. I have been able to practice most days 30-60 minutes. I can play single notes up and down, most of Walk With Me & Solo Study 1. My question is how would you structure 30-60 min of practice time per day? What are the most important things to be focusing on? Also, I looked ahead and saw a Bending Study 2 but couldn't find # 1. Thanks for your help & this site.
Welcome to the site Snrubnivek, I'm glad you're enjoying your studies. Students should generally focus their practice time as follows…
10m = Technique - Work on something hard… something you can't do well at all.
30m = Study Song - This is "Walk with Me" for you right now. As you're buttoning up "Walk with Me" you can start working on Tongue Block Study 2 at the same time. Most of your studies on the site are in the form of study song (mostly tongue blocking and bending for you in the first two years)
20m = Solo Harmonica Study, Music Theory and other areas of interest. Down the road you'll use this 20m for improvising.
Bending Study 1 you'll find on the Lessons page and does not contain a study song, this is why it's not listen in LOA, but you'll no doubt need to start with it, it's where you learn how to bend.
Best wishes on your studies!
