interviews
I don't know if this post is in the right spot, if it already exists yadda yadda. But I must say that the interview with Jason Ricci just blew me away. It moved me so much I can't stop smiling. That guy is the coolest harp player out there. How many pros do you know would ask you up on stage during their gig and hand you their harp and say go for it? How many pros would ask the audience if a harp player would like to come up and play during the break? (happened to me) He is out there I must say but I get a kick out of his playing and personality. I find myself at jams all over the country, and many times I will be told stories about Jason when he was there. He seems to move people where ever he goes.

I would really like to see someone interview David- questions about when he started -Motivation- how his skill level progressed-along the same questions asked other modern greats...
Great idea! Perhaps Aki or Joe T could do that interview?
I, too, was very impressed with his interview. He has a fresher perspective of harp playing than many of the more "traditional" players - even while still being firmly rooted in the postwar method.
I really like his approach of scale familiarity as a path toward improvisation. I've found that true myself in other instruments I've learned. I also really like his style - sort of a fusion of rock and jazz with an underlying supporting structure of postwar blues. Maybe it's the rocker in me, but his music fits my ear better than many of the traditionalists. I wouldn't doubt we see more like him in the future - perhaps even a third branch of blues that is even more modern than "modern" blues.
