online tuners
Kinya,
I just watched the Interview with Tuning Table Inventor Rick Trankle. He mentioned online tuners so I went to the Seventh String Tuner web site ('cause it's free).
The online tuner gives me the correct note, however when I play a sustained note that should be at zero cents (440.0), the cents meter swings back and forth between 2 and 7 cents with "Hum cancellation" unchecked and between 5 and 8 with "Hum cancellation" checked. Also it registers about 20 cents too high.
I also read "How to Use the Tuner" a few times, tried the tuner in fireFox, Internet Explorer, Chrome. Is there anything else I should try? Could the problems be with be the sound card? Or maybe the electric utilities company has too many transformers in my neighborhood?
Thanks,
Gary Hayes
Hey Gary,
Sorry for the delay in my response. I'm curious, how is the AP Tuner working for you?

Hello Gary,
How are you Man? Haven't seen you in awhile.
In the upcoming 'Harp Tech Series" that David and I are filming, I cover my favorite tuners. Although I ranked the Peterson at the top of my favorite list, an important feature of all on-line and iphone apps is the ability to "dampen the needle". I am not familiar with The Seventh String, but if it has it--and you already enabled the needle dampening feature, then it very likely your gear, including computer and mic could be funky.
p.s. Don't forget to calibrate your tuner from the 440Hz default up to 442~440Hz. Otherwise you will play out of tune with your band mates ;o(
