Hi David,
I'm a total newby and when I bought a Special 20, I didn't realize there were different keys of harmonicas. Well, turns out I ordered the key of D. From what I gather, the key of C is best for a beginner. So, I bought a Blues Band 1501 in the key of C. Did I just compound my mistake by buying a "cheap" harmonica that some say is harder to bend than one in the class of my Special 20? I want to play blues and learn right the first time so what should I do? Buy a Marine Band A like you use in the lessons?
Thanks for your time,
-Ron
No, keep your D harp, you'll use it. There are twelve keys in music, so eventuality you'll have twelve harmonicas, but you just need the A for right now. You'll soon use what's considered a standards set of G, A, B-flat, C and D, augmenting it with a Low-F later. These harmonicas will cover you 95% of the time. Pick up the harps as you need them in the lessons.
Welcome to the harmonica Ron. As you stated, the Special 20 is a good harp, so that's a winner. The Blues Band is not really the optimal harmonica to learn on. The beginning lessons on the site use the A Harmonica, so get yourself an A Special 20. Best wishes on your studies.
