Pulls: draw or blow?
Hi, David:
On pulls, I can use either draw or blow chords. Generally, the note preceding the pull dictates what sort of pull I use. However, in Solo Harmonica Study 2.1 and 2.2, the sequence ends with a Pull, 2+, Pull. Since the pull is preceded by a 2+, my mouth wants to do a blow pull. However, since it's in a I-V bar, it sounds a bit awkward. Should I practice getting it as a draw pull, or would a blow pull be acceptable?
Thank you.
Perfect, thank you for the clarification.
I wouldn't call it the I-V Bar, though I understand what you're saying, I would just say Bar 12.
In this case, a draw pull is most common. The main reason is that when between two draw notes (the 2 and the 1), the pull is usually a draw. Same goes for when the pull is surrounded by blow notes, you would do a blow pull.
More info...
Whenever you're not sure in regards to a pull, play the pull as a single note (a pull is a substitution of a single note), so the lick would be 2 1 1 1 with a draw pull. In this case, the blow pull makes perfect sense as well, because it creates 2 2+ 1 1, which is very common. So which one do you choose?... the default goes to keeping it a draw, due to it being surrounded by draw pulls.
Evening Marc. I'm not following what you mean by "I-V bar," can you please elaborate. Also, are you speaking of Solo Harmonica Study 2?
