Hello Hannes. Good question. You're right, the C chord (C E G) of the 1+, 2+ and 3+ does not match on the G chord (G B D) of the I chord. BUT... the chord that precedes the single note (slap is a chord to a single note) is too quick to cause any problems. So, ignore it and feel free to chose 2 or 3+ whenever you wish.
P.S., the flutter is different (which is essentially a slap many times over). Due to the fact that we hear the chord a lot in a flutter, we do need to keep that chord into consideration.
