Hi David,

Ive downloaded some 12 bar blues rock tracks and am trying to put together an instrumental using licks from the study songs, but for some reason these licks dont sound right when played over the rock track. Am I doing something wrong, or should I be learning licks from blues rock songs i.e. Paul Butterfieldand placing these over the aforementioned 12 bar blues.

Thankyou for your help,

Paul

Are these rock tracks

Are these rock tracks straight-eighth? In other words, do they sound more like "Gary's Blues" (swing-eighth) or more like "The Strut" (straight-eighth)?

Strange... rock tunes are not

Strange... rock tunes are not usually that way. Cool though, you have tons of material you can use... Gary's Blues, Temperature, The Split, Half Steppin', My Blues, Blues for Paul deLay, I Want You With Me, etc., are all good candidates for licks.

Hi David,

Apologies David, the track that I've downloaded is straight eighths, sorry. Going to take my favourite licks from The Strut and work these in to the track. Feel daft now,

Regards,

Paul

Great. You can also try some

Great. You can also try some from Rollin' Rhumba (3rd Position Study 1), though it will have a light sound (maybe not best). I also have a book titled Rock Harmonica published by Mel Bay Publications... you'll find a lot of ideas in there.
