Rocket and Progressive Special 20 Reed length
Hohner says this about the new Rocket and Progressive Special 20 reed plates: "Special 20 reed plates have been slightly altered to accommodate their use in the Rocket, HOHNER’s newest 10-hole Progressive harmonica. The plates are identical except for the additional cover plate screw holes on each side needed to accommodate both models."
But I have replaced a couple of 5 draw reeds and found that the replacement reeds from Hohner (which always fit the old Special 20s) had to be trimmed slightly in length in order to clear the end of the slot. Are the slots shorter, or the rivet hole placed differently, or am I crazy?
Thanks,
Mark H.
Hi Mark, you maybe crazy--I haven't met you in person yet ;o)
If you know for ABSOLUTE certain that you are replacing the faulty reed with "like kind pitch" and slot size reeds, then the problem is with the reed pad.
I'm assuming you are using my 0-80 brass screw strategy? If so, simply enlarge the reed pad hole (left behind from the discarded rivet) with a twist reamer, (like the MicroMark.com set of reaming tools #85137).This will give you more wiggle room, and allow you to push the reed back enough to clear the reed tip.
