Hi-I don't know how to describe my entry-it started from a lick & thinking of different variations on it.It was great fun & my first go at making up my own harmonica song-hope its ok & thanks again for the great idea Dave.
Nice feel.
Very steady playing.
You might consider adding another section to add a little variety.
Also the song would be stronger if it was trimmed down a little bit.
Very catchy composition and well thought out. I was delighted that you came back and restated your melody. The piece has a nice Old-timey feel to it but the ending was much more blues sounding. You may want to try this out on a lower key harp and also try and let those chords ring out a little more a times, especially in the middle section. JF
Thanks for the great feedback Joe-learning a lot by reading through the comments all the judges have written-funnily enough I had been playing it on an A harp since submitting it & finding it did sound better & I think with practice my chords will hopefully get better.Thankyou so much for listening!
Shows excellent control of partial bends and displays some good techniques. This makes sense as a composition and reminds me of some of the rural prewar harmonica pieces from Tennessee. I wasn’t too wild about the ending, but the balance of it is first-rate. This should be issued as a 78 RPM record! (And I mean that as a compliment.) :)
After reading yours & David's comments I will definitely be leaving that ending off! When I was little we had an old wind up gramaphone & I loved listening to the few old 78s we had & that's where I started to love music from that era I think-so that is a compliment-thankyou & thankyou so much for taking the time to listen to our entries-what an honour!
Strong opening. I like you rhythmic theme... very catchy. I like your head (main theme). Nice change at 1:30... it was needed. Nice change again at 1:58, it was a welcome place of energy change. I was glad to hear the head come back. I like that you played the lick three times at the end. I would have personally left the classic ending off. Great submission!
Thankyou David for the great feedback. I thought this was a really exciting & challenging contest as i think everyone else did as well & I think have learnt a lot playing a different style. I has also been wonderful listening to everyone's submissions & hearing everyone individual styles & approaches.
Well done Pat, this certainly gets the toes tapping! You've come up with some nice variation on the main lick. The track has a real "old timey" feel to it. Great stuff!
Thankyou so much for your kind comment. This is the best website & I learn something every time I log on. I know there are many amazing blues harp players out there who subscribe to this website & I am really looking forward to hearing their entries which I'm sure they are all putting the finishing touches too-- come on chuggers!!!

Oh Yeah!!
Way to go Pat - you really got rhythm and melody lines to fit together and show the techniques you have developed. Congratulations!!
Very catchy!

Great stuff!
That's a really cool tune and I love the train whistle - also you've got a lot of variation in the melody, which I like. Gonna have to learn this!
