Great job. I agree you should stop trashing yourself. This composition is what most of us aspire to play. It is hard enough to get the chops to play something that somebody else wrote or performed, but to create you own instrumetal that is something. Congrats on a job well done!

I think you've done a really good job on this. You vary the theme nicely throughout which is a lot harder than people think. Nice cheerful feel to it as well. I think it could have benefited from the use of different textures in places especially on the main 4draw/5blow riff. Maybe you could play this using the 1-4 and 2-5 octave splits occasionally to mix it up a bit, or add some vibrato or hand effects. Only a minor criticism though - overall really well done.

Nice head. I like how you used some elements of the head in the second chorus. The 4 draw started to get a little old for me on the third chorus, since it was used so heavily on the first two choruses... nice shake. 3/4 combo and 2" on the fourth chorus sounded great! Started with the 3/4 again at the beginning of the fifth chorus... maybe changing your focus note here would be a good idea since we've already heard that combo at the beginning of the previous chorus... nice high-end work. Really good stuff... keep it up!

Really like this, Hank! I see what you mean about the difference between jamming and actually writing an instrumental - there's a much stronger sense of development. All the hard work notating it is definitely worth it - without paying attention to chorus forms and themes, I find myself just noodling and falling back on the same damn riffs over and over again.
Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. Most of my comments here were about trying to write something down on paper and making it interesting and being able to repeat it rather than just wailing away and taking what comes - rarely the same thing twice!!
David talks about creating the chorus forms and then writing riffs to fit the chords. I tried using Joe Filisko's tab system because you can put tabs down in rhythm patterns (its based on triplet per beat). I just didn't realize how long it took to write down what I was playing and then to figure out how the rhythms fit a timeline. I'm guessing that part of it gets quicker with practice like playing techniques.
Meanwhile its a great trip!! And again thanks for your kind comments - no more self trashing!!! I promise!!

Nice Job.
First of all, you took the time and had the courage to put it out there............something no one else has done yet (including me). So you really can't be that hard on yourself.
The title should be Toe Tapper. My toes tapped to the rhythm and when I hear something I don't like in the first few bars I immediately turn it off and go to a different tune. I felt no urge to change the channel or to stop the music.
It reminded me of the instrumental "Cannonball Shuffle" by John Mayal on his Palace of Kings album.
You trash yourself far too much and it is counterproductive - you are good enough now just to enjoy the journey of getting better and better each day without worrying how you might compare to someone else either real or imagined.
Trust me...your are light years ahead of most I hear locally, and they REALLY think they are something...go figure.
