Waouh! Great sound!
Hi jodanchudan
Thanks for sharing!
I've really enjoyed listening to your song. There is soul in your playing, if you see what I mean.
I fully agree with stefaniak, the notion of "cliché" does not apply if it's played with feeling.
Waiting for your next recording ;-)
Laurent
Thanks
Thanks guys! Hank, I totally agree about the use of cliches. Rob, yeah, the strucutre definitely wanders. When I'm improvising in 2nd position, even though it's tough, I have just enough stolen lick ideas and familiarity with the position to be able to apply chorus forms/focus notes on the spot - not great, but adequate. With first position, though, even though I started with some sort of structure in mind, I just don't have the lick vocabulary to change up my playing enough, so I keep falling back on the same old licks. I find it a really hard position to play in for that reason (and why I was so blown away with Charlie Musselwhite's Clarksdale Getaway on The Well and David's The Tub). Also, I was trying hard to work on technique on this track after hearing Kim Wilson's version and got sidetracked by that!
Good stuff!
great vibe going on there JC. I think you are right that the structure loses its way a bit but you quote SBWII with aplomb! Did you lay down your choruses beforehand or did you just have some ideas in mind and then jammed through the track? Or did you have a structure but wandered a bit when you hit the record button because it just went that way? What I'm getting at is that the technique is bang on and a bit more structure would really take the track to another level. I know you said yourself that you ended up noodling so I'm not telling you anything you don't already know but I'm wondering why you didn't go again before uploading with more emphasis on the structure. Or perhaps you are simply more interested on getting feedback on your developing techniques and position playing. If so, then thumbs up from me. (Hope that's not too critical, just my thoughts... Good work as always!)
good stuff
I am impressed with the way you are coming on - this is very authentic 1st position sound and your solid use of hand effects is well done and effective. IMHO, there's not a lot wrong with "cliched" stuff when it comes out sounding like this!!
By the ay - really like what you did with the train song on Modern Blues Harmonica - good one!! I'm becoming a fan!!
