Shout Board, Academy of Blues?
Hi David,
I'm a recent convert from Howard Levy's ArtistWorks site. I found that his lessons were all over the place and there really wasn't any systematic flow or focus to them. It probably works for some people but I guess your teaching style just fits my learning style better. One thing I do miss about his site is the sense of community that they have, particularly the Shout Board, Who's Online, Profiles with everyone's submissions, videos, pictures, etc. Kind of like facebook for enthusiasts. They still have the forums, it's just a little more involved in that aspect. I still do the Banjo classes on ArtistWorks and it feels very involved and motivating.
They recently launched an Academy of Bluegrass where some of the best players in the world teach, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, guitar, etc. Basically the typical components of a bluegrass band. While you have to pay for each individual instrument to gain access to the lessons, everyone can communicate with each other and check out profiles to find out more about other the other instruments, form jam sessions, etc. It would be awesome if someday your site could form into an extension of an online "Academy of Blues" of sorts.
Looking through the forums on this site I see you occasionally ask for suggestions and feedback. These are just some ideas. It's worth heading over to ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass and checking it out for ideas. I use Tony Trischka's school of banjo. His level of progression and teaching style is similar to your blues harmonica instruction.
Anyways, I'm really happy to be here and enjoying all of the interviews, tours, specials, etc. Looking forward to advancing far enough to play some Sonny Boy II. I've been wanting to play blues harmonica for years and finally it seems within my grasp.
Thank you sir,
Taylor
No need to do that, very kind of you though Taylor. I don't mind paying. We no doubt are interested in adding elements to the site to offer the students more of a community experience. We have some great ideas, it just gets down to time and $. Since it's just me and Andy (tech for the site), our focus is heavy on site content... we'll add elements like this in as time and $ allows.
Thank you Taylor, I'll check it out. Best wishes on your studies.
