Is there anything useful that can be done with a dead Shure 777S? (Other than using it as a historic paperweight)
Can the element be removed without tearing it up?
Hi Marcos,
The SHURE Slim-X 777 mics have a piezo element that's built into the removable 'head' assembly, making it a modular capsule. These 'capsules' were sold separately as placements way back then as the element itself could not be repaired. Remember, these babies were on the cheap side of the inexpensive product line at the time. Nowadays, the 777 replacements aren't easy to come by. I've experimented with a variety of elements as substitutes, and the toughest challenge is finding something that'll FIT the diameter of the body. See what you can find. You might be able to improvise your own solution without destroying the 'look' of the mic.
