Hey - if it is free, take it!
Hey - if it is free, take it! TEST IT. It MAY BE GOOD! You never know. What do you have to lose?
Hi, Bloster
Honestly I have never tried a SlimX 777 - but crystal mics from that era and that size tend to be really great sounding mics. However I am confused when you say it will cost you $75 to restore. If it is not working, that element cannot be repaired and original replacements would be extremely difficult to find without simply buying another entire mic that works. If "restoration" means replacing the element with a more modern one, then it is much more difficult to say how it will sound. It will no longer be a 777. The element is the heart of any microphone. The case or "shell" it is housed in has much less to do with its tone, (especially for crystal elements, which don't care about the air space behind them) and more to do with ergonomics. Some mics are simply more comfortable to hold and easier to cup than others.
If it is working, what "restoration" does it need?
