At the end of example 1.7 there are three one draws as a turnaround. They seem to be faster than the metronome beats. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Hello Duece32. You are correct, they are faster than the metronome, but not out of time. These are swing eighth notes. Eighth notes get half a beat (two of them make one click of the metronome). Listen to my recording to follow the swing/shuffle feel of those eighth notes. If you would like a definition of how swing eighths work, you can study them here https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/rhythm_training
