Source of reeds
Forgive me it this has been asked before, but I did not see anything from my search of the forums.
I have a handful of blown Marine Band and Spec 20 reeds plates laying around and I use the reeds here and there to keep one set of Marine Bands in perfect playing condition for my style. At $35 apiece these harps aren't exactly cheap anymore (at least not in my tax bracket).
As the price of harps climbs and my supply of reeds dwindles... is there a cheap alternative available?
Is there a cheap-o harp brand that can be purchsed expressly to strip for reeds? Or better yet, is there a place where I can just order a supply of loose reeds?
Harvesting reeds good from your stock of old Marine Band 1896, 2005, Crossover | Special 20 | Golden Melody is a very good strategy, but when you run out ...
I'm afraid there are no other substitute harmonicas besides those I just listed. Go to Harp Tech Study 5 - Reed Replacement and look at the bottom of page 2 of the pdf document. You will find the contact information for Hohner USA. Here you will be able to purchase factory reeds.
