Structure to learning
Hey, David, this is Jack Ferguson. I started learning the basics of the harmonica recently using your Levels of Achievement lessons. I have really enjoyed my time watching your videos. In addition to this, I have been following along with your lessons with Sharon. I'm posting today to ask more about how to structure my studies. Basically what I have been doing is watching the same videos over and over and playing when prompted to play by you. Its a little bit challenging getting experience from watching the videos so I was wondering what I should be doing my time to practice. Is there non-video related topics I could be looking at to figure my own way through so that I am not just playing a few seconds here and there when asked by you in the videos. I'm sorry about the wording on this as I know it probably sounds a little bit confusing. For reference, I am still in Step 1 of LOA 1 trying to figure out playing multiple holes, tongue blocking, and playing with the metronome. Thank you.
Hello Jack, welcome to the site. I'm glad you're enjoying the material. Yes, I recommend you work with "Walk With Me," which is found in Tongue Block Study 1. This will be your major study for three months. While you're doing this, you can also work with Solo Harmonica Study 1, Examples 1.2, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7... this will be a nice break from the study song. Let me know if you have any further questions.
