Hi Winslow,
I've seen your review of the Suzuki G-48. Have you had the opportunity to play the G-48W with the rosewood cover plates?
Any thoughts on comparing the two models?
Any significant updates to your assessment of the G-48 Since you reviewed it?
Best,
Andrew

I played both versions when they first came out. My impression (and that of some of my colleagues) was that the rosewood plates made the instrument brighter, not mellower as Suzuki claims (Gregoire also feels that the wood makes the tone mellower). Still, I found that I preferred the metal covers.
One of my students bought the wood cover version online, and when it came, the wood covers were cracked. Metal may scuff or dent, but will remaing functional unless you flat out crush it.
I still tlike the G-48 a lot, but I wanted it in a 64 so when the Sirius 64 came out, I got one. A very different isntrument, but I really, really like it. Really a lot.
