Just a quick note to say thanks for all the cool material recently uploaded - the James Harman track, all the improvising lessons, the great songwriting submissions from Gary Smith and Mark Hummel, Joe Filisko's submissions, Aki Kumar's entertaining blues contest journey, Joe Tartaglia's lessons and now Steve Guyger's Snake Oil - a track I really love and have been messing around with for a while. This site keeps getting better and better!

Using Audacity

from the FLAC file you think will be easier then from the mp3 to try at least to soften just the harp signal, or the mp3 is the same?
I know try it on an already mixed song will be like trying to take back the sugar grain after them melted in the coffie, what I would like to know is:
do normally the Harp has a frequency signal much different from the other instruments, and sofor easier to be found and removed?
Do the Harp when mixed as a Solo instr is usually handled in way similar the the singer voice wich some programs is able to remove, or I better neither start trying it?
If possible will come handy to learn some trick also for other tunes

Answer

Vocal removal tools work on the idea that the vocals are mixed to be center channel... with the instruments commonly being mixed to be more left or right channel. If the harmonica is the lead instrumental, like in "Snake Oil," it may work. Give it a try and see if it works... it will on some tunes and not on others.
