Im working back over theory 2 to be able to get through with Section 5.

My questions are on the example 6.2 which is not addressed in your video.   Correct me if I am wrong in any of the following:

So this is an Eb Alto playing music in the key of F (one flat)

- Naming the notes is easy

So if the music is in F that essentially says the "band" is in F.  So I play either an F harp 1 pos or a Bb harp in second pos etc.  The scale degrees follow the F scale and are the same regardless if I play a 1st or 2nd position harp.  They (of course) fall in different places on the harp.

If I am playing I Chord, Iv Chord or 5 Chord vary by position: if Im in 1st Pos my 1 chord is 1, 3, 5 Blow (etc).  In second position it is 2, 3, 4 draw (etc).  This part needs to be memorized for each position (not very easy).

I dont follow the meaning of the F, C, F on the first line.

Thanks for the help and confirmation.

Hello Gary.

"So if the music is in F that essentially says the "band" is in F. So I play either an F harp 1 pos or a Bb harp in second pos etc. The scale degrees follow the F scale and are the same regardless if I play a 1st or 2nd position harp. They (of course) fall in different places on the harp."

Yes, this is correct

"If I am playing I Chord, Iv Chord or 5 Chord vary by position: if Im in 1st Pos my 1 chord is 1, 3, 5 Blow (etc). In second position it is 2, 3, 4 draw (etc). This part needs to be memorized for each position (not very easy)."

Yes. We start by learning songs in the different positions and work on our chord knowledge. Over time, we learn how to maneuver on the harmonica in the different positions and which holes/notes work over given chords.

"I dont follow the meaning of the F, C, F on the first line."

Those are the chords. They start on an F Chord (I Chord) and then go to a C Chord (V Chord), etc. You'll be focusing on the melody right now, we'll deal with the chords in Theory 3. They're present in the example, because you will see those chord designations in music you'll look at (my focus was to give a you a real-world example). Sorry for any confusion.

Follow up ... exercise 6.3

I should be able to do this but Im lost.

Okay the band is in F (one Flat).  How can I play along with a sax playing in F using a C harp second position which would be G?

You transpose the song to the

You transpose the song to the key of G...

1) Write out the scale degrees for the notes in the F Major Scale (F=1, G-2, etc.)

2) Analyze the song melody (note for note) to find out what the note names are and their scale degrees

3) Write out the scale degrees for the notes in the G Major Scale (G=1, A-2, etc.)

4) Using the scale degrees from the key of F, change them over to the notes of the key of G (F1 = G1)

5) Figure out where those notes are on your C Harmonica

If some of this is not making sense, go through the lesson videos with you PDF printout in hand to review the concepts... it's covered in the lesson.
