Tilting the harp towards the right cheek
Hello instructor! how are you doing??
I just have a quick question about bringuing the harp to the side, towards the right cheek. I know this is good to get a darker and deeper tone, but it gets more difficult to do the tongue switch, and octaves, but it´s easier to bend.I´ve been tilting the harp for so much time, and now i´m having trouble to do the bends with the harp in front of the mounth, and specially to always cover four holes with the mouth. Right now I´m at LOA 5, and I did get there tilting the harp to the right., and back to left when I need to tongue switch.
Which one is the "right" way? what should I do?
thank you
Hello elmocamboharp, I'm doing well, thank you. It sounds to me that you may be using too much of the right side of your tongue while leaning the harp towards your right cheek. Try using a little bit more of the top of your tongue while playing. It sounds like you're used to playing with the harp leaning towards your cheek, so continue with it, practicing achieving the octave and tongue switch without changing the angle of your harmonica. The goal is that the angle of your harmonica stay the same throughout the entire range of playing the harmonica. Best wishes on this.
