Tongue Tip Or Tongue Blade For Blocking/Bending
I am studying your video on Temperature Chorus 5.
You are showing us the bend on the 3 hole. You illustrate with your fingers and hand how they impact the face of the harmonica. Your fingertips are moving straight into the front of the harmonica.
I have been positioning the harmonica deep into my mouth and have been blocking with the blade of the tongue. I see you impact the comb of the harmonica, where the holes are with the tip of your fingers.
Am I reading into your hand movement incorrectly with how the tongue should impact the harmonica?
I also see how you could then hump the tongue if it goes into the Harmonica with the tip versus the blade.
I have it in my mouth so that if someone pushed the harmonica from the front of me the harmonica would go into my mouth further without any restriction.
If I have my tip of my tongue on the comb or face of the harmonica versus slightly underneath the harmonica I could stop the harmonica from going into my mouth.
Also, when you say move the tongue to the right to get to the 1st hole when playing the riff where you want us to play the 4th hole and 1st hole, do you mean move the back part of our tongue to the right of our mouth versus moving or pointing the tip of the tongue to the right.
By moving the back part of the tongue to the right the tip of the tongue goes to the left or vice versa if we want to reach a hole to the right. Is that correct? When you say tongue you mean the back part of the tongue?
I hope you enjoy your trip to Germany.
I use the top part of my tongue... the blade... as I stated in past responses. I'm sorry, maybe my hand gestures to show the technique are not the perfect example. When I state to move the tongue to the right, it's the part that blocks the holes on the harmonica... so 1-2-3 lock to get hole 4 sounding, then moves to 2 3 4 (to the right) to play hole 1.
