Too much feedback when mic´ing my amp
Hello everybody, i´m having many problems when I try to mic my amp on the bandstand...
I did as David taught us, but I´m getting too much feedback. I´m not sure if I´m doing everything right. Sometimes, if I just turn the volume control I little bit, I get lots of feedback..
I set my 20 watts (small gig) on MAX, almost no gain, bass on 10 and treble around 2.
But what about the settings on the mixing table? should I let the controls "flat"? ou should also turn the bass up and treble down? We don´t have a sound engenieer, how do I know if I´m playing too loud??
I have another question that might sound stupid, but why can´t we plug ou bullet microphone direct on the mixing table?? And if we are sitting right in front of the monitors??
Thank you
If your problem is feedback from your amp, maybe try some less-extreme gain/volume settings. Turn up the gain a little to give yourself some flexibility, and back the volume off. What's best will vary from amp to amp, room, mic, player...and taste.
if your problem is feedback from the PA, that may be about monitor placement, or especially having too much harp in the monitor. Ideally, don't have the harp in the monitor. Use your amp as your monitor.
You can sometimes plug directly into PA. If you use a hiZ mic, you need a hiZ input to the PA. Some have them, some don't.
the best bet is to use a DI box, to plug your hiZ mic into on stage, and then run the loZ line out from the DI to PA
of course, then you do need to have the harp in the PA monitor, so you need to be aware of which speaker the harp is coming through and be in position to hear without putting your mic too close and getting feedback
