Transcribe Software
Has anyone used a software package called "Transcribe!" ?? It was recommended to me by an outstanding harp player (IMHO) who uses it in much the same way as I use Amazing Slowdowner. It has (as I start to experiment with it) the advantage of being able to 'mark up' the sound track into sections (chorus), bars, and beats. I've tried it on 3 of our songs and it certainly does help with identifying the chorus, bar etc. and I'm trying to get to what else it can do. The name and the descriptions on the web page certainly indicate it has "transcribing" usefulness (ATTENTION HARROKI2) but I haven't tried that potential out.
It has a 30 day trial that I'm currently on (3 days left) and a price tag of $50 for one copy and a reduced price for multiple users. URL is - http://www.seventhstring.com/index.html - if anyone is interested in having a look.
So far I think I like it, very similar features to Amazing Slowdowner with a visible sound track and a piano keyboard to get note identification. I'll probably get it and report back after using it a lot more to see if it's more useful than A.S. If anyone else has tried it or uses it, I'd really like to hear your reactions to and uses of it.
I told the developer I wished there was an iPad version, but he didn't comment on that. AnyTune is supposed to have a 3.0 version coming out soon, and they hinted on their Facebook page that it might go on sale. I will probably get that for iPad whenever it goes on sale, and get Transcribe for Windows. My husband is learning guitar, so I'm sure he'll have some use for both of them, too.
I've been using Transcribe for about a month now and just purchased a license. I like it. I just use it for slowing stuff down, changing the pitch, highlighting and looping sections. I don't use any of the other features.
Previously I did the same sort of things with the free software Audacity, but I find I can do it with fewer steps in Transcribe. But both work fine. I tried 'The Amazing Slower Downer' also but prefer Transcribe's user interface. Neither really feels like a modern Mac app though.
Changing the pitch is handy for playing along with something like Little Walter's Juke, which is somewhere between E and E flat in the released recording. It's impossible to play along with unless you fix the pitch. They must have messed up the speed of the playback in the mastering process or something back in 1952.

Hi all,
I am new to harmonica but not new to software, I use practice# (practice Sharp)
http://code.google.com/p/practicesharp/
Is free and does pretty much the same thing that amazing slow downer, except reading from CDs, but there are free CD rippers as well.
Take a look and enjoy.

Thanks for the tip on Practice Sharp. BestPractice is another free one. http://sourceforge.net/projects/bestpractice/
Hi,
I know I am reviving a really old post, but I am also in the 30-day trial of Transcribe. One thing that is great about it is the "Speed Up" command where you can tell it the starting speed you want, the number of repetitions you want, the speed amount you want it to increase after your repetitions, and what speed you want it to end on. Then you just start and it will gradually increase the speed as you practice that section. I love this and was wondering if you all knew of any other software that had a feature like that? From what I could tell from the limited ASD trial, it doesn't have this ability.
My feeling is that Transcribe is much better than ASD, and $10 cheaper. You also get a full-featured 30-day trial which makes a difference for really being able to evaluate it.
I also like how you can save multiple selections in a file ans switch between them easily. The developer seems pretty responsive, too. I emailed him yesterday because the speed up feature was not honoring the loop delay I had set, and he identified it as a bug and will be fixing it in the next version.
Transcribe is for Windows, Mac, and Linux. I wish there was an iPad version, however. On iPad, so far I find AnyTune to be the best, but I haven't sprung for the paid version yet and I don't think it has anything like Transcribe's Speed Up feature. If anyone knows of a great app like this for iPad, please let me know.
