Tremolo and Vibrato
Hello David!
I'm really enjoying the clases and everything else you got here! It's been a week and I already reach the first chorus of walk with me (kind of reach... Hehehe).
Anyway, I have 2 questions: 1) the only difference between a tremolo and a Vibrato is the pitch change? If so we are taking about different techniques, am I right?
2) is it appropriate to create the tremolo if the diaphragm instead of the throat? I'm struggling with it while drawing. when I try it, slowly, with the harp out of my mouth, really focused, I'm capable, but when I add the harp, the tempo, the tongue block and so on, I immediately transfer the muscle action to the diaphragm.
Thanks again!
Regards!
Hello Gustavo, I’m glad you’re enjoying your studies.
Here’s the lesson on tremolo and vibrato https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/tremolo_and_vibrato
Yes, tremolo is a change in amplitude (volume) and vibrato is a change in pitch. The vibrato is a different technique, but at its foundation is a solid tremolo (the vibrato needs the tremolo going to make it happen).
Though you can use a diaphragm tremolo, it creates a different type of vibrato (not many players use it). Stick with the throat tremolo, you will get it (it can take six months for a student to get it dialed in). I don’t recommend you think about the vibrato yet, it’s a technique you’ll learn down the road (it requires other areas of your technique to mature).
