Try Playing for Children to be more expressive
I was sitting in a car repair waiting room. I was by myself at first, so, what do I do, of course: I whip out my Bb and start playing Blue Midnight. A little ways through, a couple with their two young girls (about 4 and 5 years old) walk by. The children stop mesmerized, so of course I want it to be as expressive and fun for them as possible, so I played the quiets as quiet as possible, and built up to crescendos, and hit the COW!s really hard, leaning forward with a twinkle in my eye (they giggled), and just did everything I could to make it as amusing as possible.
I don't know if it's exactly the way you want to play for adults, but it sure shakes things up and gets you trying to tell them a story. Maybe there's a different story you want to tell adults, or maybe.....the child-like delight is about the same at any age.
Try it. Let me know what you think.
I bought one for a friend's 3 year old son. It's a four hole harmonica that is pretty durable.

He loves it! I also got him the classic children's book called Lentil. His mom reads it to him and it gets him super excited to play. I think it's his favorite book now.

I do it all the time and I really recommend it. Even babies enjoy it!
I live abroad, so every time I visit my family I have to break the ice with the youngest who doesn't know me or don't remember me. And I have found the harmonica is a great way to get near my nephews. If they are old enough, they get a harmonica, a drum or a toy-trumpet as a present. And we have lots of fun trying to jam and get a lullaby sounding.
It's lots of fun!
Anybody knows if there are harmonicas for kids in the market? do they have a recommended age to start playing?
