Tuning
David,
I know you use Filisko harps. What tuning do you use? Pure 7 limit just, a compromise tuning, or equal? By listening I'm guessing it's a compromise tuning, perhaps similar to the current marine band tuning?
I have a nice amp with great bass response - almost too good though in terms of the difference tones. When I play a draw 2 5 split (minor seventh) with my MB deluxes or S20s, I get a really weird sounding 'undertone' thing going on - maybe an out of tune B flat on a C harp? It's really rough sounding. I can turn down the bass to make it tolerable. But when I use my one 7 limit just tuned harp, and don't blow too hard, a nice low G pops out, in addition to the normal G and F. It's maybe an octave lower, or maybe 2? So I'm thinking about retuning the draw 7 flatter on my harps.
Hmm....,
Steve
I've never asked Joe what tuning he uses specifically... I just asked him kindly to build me a harp and luckily he said yes! ;-) I have not had the issues you brought up above... it sounds like you figured it out by adjusting your bass. Ask the HarpSmith, maybe he has some thoughts for you.
