Turnaround
Hello.
I'm currently working on improvisation study.
I realize that I'm confused with the turnaround structure.
Except the fact that the structure is V-IV-I-V, is there other rules concerning the turnaround?
I'm afraid there is hundred's...

By the way, if you’re speaking of the part of the 12 bar blues progression that starts in bar 9, it’s not called the turnaround. If you are speaking about bar 9, the same applies as what I just spoke about. When looking for licks that fit in that part of the 12 bar form, pick a lick that already resides in that part of the form. Me, or the artist, that you’re copying from, already knows right notes to play. This is a more challenging part of 12 bar blues, because you have to follow the chord progression, in other words, the notes of each of the chords, much more closely. There is a study dedicated to this, which is improvising study 4.
Hello Bruno. The turnaround is the last two bars of the 12 bar blues progression. So, bars 11 and 12. It starts with the I Chord, and at the end, the last couple of beats, it goes to the V Chord. Right now in your studies, just know that you need to grab a lick from one of your study songs that inhabits that part of the 12 bar blues. Apples for apples. You will later learn about the turnaround in much greater detail in Improvising Study 5. if you want to dig into the details now, of course feel free to go to Improvising Study 5 now.
