Ultrasonic cleaner
Hey Kinya. Do you ever clean more than one harp per batch of solution in your ultrasonic cleaner, or do you make up a new solution for each one? I have a couple that need cleaning. Technically three.
I'm not sure what Kinya does, but as long as you clean out the worst accumulation around the holes and do a quick rinse before using the ultrasonic cleaner, I would not hesitatate to put as many as three harps in at one time.
I am assuming that these harps have some kind of plastic combs, right?
A few more thoughts on combs & ultrasonic cleaners:
- any kind of metal comb is fine for ultrasonic cleaners
- as we have already covered, any plastic comb, including acrylic & corian combs, are fine for the ultrasonic cleaner
- I wuold never put any kind of wood comb in an ultrasonic cleaner - even "stabilized wood" - wood that has been "thorougly" permeated with plastic resin through a process of using a vacuum chanber, even heavily sealed wood - like multiple coats of varathane or other sealer - even super hard pressure laminate woods - sometimes called "dymondwood" or ""machinable composite wood"... no matter what you do with wood, there is always a possibility of imperfections that the jigh frequency vibrations of an ultrasonic cleaner could de-stabilize, causing some kind of rupture
Wood combs, like wood salad bowls, can be clean and safe to use if you wash them quickly and dry them as soon as possible after you rinse them off.
Unlike metal and plastic, you can't leave wood (in any form) in water for long periods of time or subject them to the combination of water and high frequency vibrations without risk of damage.
Wood is water-resistant, metal and plastic are water proof.
Thank you for the post. I'm sorry for the delayed response. I was just informed that Kinya will be out for a while, recovering from an unscheduled surgery. He is doing well, but needs time to recoup. I have asked another expert to answer your question in the interim. We will be back to you as soon as possible with an answer. Thank you for your patience.
