Valved versus non-valved harmonica
David,
After my Western European holiday I begun to learn "The Split".
In the meantime I learned some important rules that is a good and great teacher, a talented and busy student and a very good instrument that are necessary for an enjoyable learning process.
I have 2 pcs of B flat harmonica. I do not really like either of them. :-) All of them brand new ones. A Hohner MS and a Suzuki Pro Master valved. To tell the truth my favorite is the Suzuki Hammond HA-20 which I have only in key of A and Suzuki Manji in key of G, D, F#. I also tuned a normal Hohner MS key of E using Meisterklasse MS Chrome reeds. (Expensive process but worth for it.)
Standard traditional MS series requires more air compared to modern types, Suzuki valved somehow strange for me regarding its handling and sounding behaviour like an unschooled horse :-) that will never learn the lesson. Other experienced musicians said me they also do not like valved ones. Unfortunately I ordered a not-valved but they could only provide this finally.
I think MS would be better for this purpose.
What other type would you recommend me that is easy to handle and has nice sound taking into consideration its price per value rate with focus on durability?
I am an experimental type but I do not want to give more money for another B flat to be on my shelf useless which I would not really like. Unfortunately harmonicas not like shoes to try and taking back to shops's shelves.
Hi Laszlo,
The valves are quite easy to remove. I would say that scrubbing the word "valved" will require more work.

Hello Laszlo. Try the Hohner Crossover. In my opinion, this is the best harmonica every produced.
