Visually impaired and learning to play harmonica
Mon, 10/25/2021 - 11:46
Hi David,
I received a question from a local harmonica club. They have this new member that is visually impaired and wants to learn to play the harmonica. Do you have any tips, maybe experience with this kind of teaching?
Thank you very much in advance for your reaction.
Kind greetings,
Jos Leijen
Hello Jos, good to hear from you.
Though I've been teaching for over 30 years, I have not had a visually impaired student as of yet. I would tend to think you would teach them the same, just focusing on learning by ear (not tablature), which is the traditional way of learning anyways, so it's not like you'll be doing something that hasn't been done.
With this said, I would tend to think that doing some research on the subject would yield some innovative ways of approaching this person's education. Let us know how it goes.
